I wanted to provide a quick update on our window treatment dilemma as seen in Episode 2 of The Designer Next Door. As you’ve seen in the episode, Anna has four custom length windows in her morning room. What many homeowners don’t consider when they build a home is that the decision to add custom sized windows will eventually result in the need to create custom sized window treatments. Designer fabric can be very expensive, ranging from $40-$150/ yard depending on the manufacturer and design as well as the material. In this case, Anna had seen a navy and white striped roman shade she LOVED on Pottery Barn’s website. The problem is, they won’t customize the shades and they can not sell the fabric by the yard. While we tried to source the exact fabric, hours of research turned up nothing. We had many navy stripe fabric options, but none were quite as pretty in Anna’s eyes.
So here’s where we need to get creative. Fortunately, Pottery Barn sells window panels in the same striped fabric. I suggested we purchase four of the longer window panels and use the fabric from those, to have our roman shades custom made from this fabric. With a 20% off coupon offered by Pottery Barn, our fabric per yard actually came out to only around $28/yard! So not only are we able to give Anna the roman shades she truly wants, we are saving on the cost of the fabric. I work with an amazing custom window workroom and will be commissioning the workroom to create our custom shades for Anna.
Where there’s a will, there’s usually a way.
See a photo of the roman shade design below and stay tuned for the “after” photos when the shades are completed and installed. Also check out Sherri’s Facebook Live update on selecting Anna’s fabric below.
